Weekend Trip to London to watch ‘Twelfth Night’
On Saturday 3rd November, a group of UV and sixth-formers visited the Young Vic Theatre in London to see a musical version of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night”.
It was a memorable production and probably the best we have ever seen in the history of Theatre Club. It demonstrated that the new artistic director of the Young Vic, Kwame Kwei-Armah, is a force to be reckoned with.
The action was transported to modern day Notting Hill just before the carnival, which was a perfect setting to capture Shakespeare’s themes of love, music and identity. The quality of the singing, acting and dancing was exceptional and the cast left us on a real high as the denouement resolved all the misunderstandings between the protagonists (except for poor Malvolio: a hilariously comic performance from Gerard Carey).
Having enjoyed a bit of shopping and lunch in central London before the play began, the girls also had the opportunity to meet some members of the cast.
