Tennis v King’s Bruton
The 1st, 2nd, 3rd teams played against King’s Bruton at St Mary’s on Saturday. The senior team give thanks to Emilia and Sofia and Sofia and Lucy who all stepped in to play for the senior teams on this occasion, they played really well under the pressure of facing older girls and Sofia and Lucy came away with a 3 set win!
There were some extremely close games around the courts and some ‘wow’ points which would have pleased any Wimbledon crowd, in particular the 2nd pair, Ella and Georgia, with precision placement of shots and consistent play, as well as Izzy’s powerful down-the-line shots and quick reactions at the net.
Mary and Elizabeth in the 2nds and Willow and Cicely in the 3rds won 2 out of 3 sets, both beating King’s 1st pairs. Particular improvements could be seen with Willow & Cicely throughout the afternoon.
A huge well done to Sofia and Lucy who won all their sets in the 3rds! A fantastic achievement.
1st team lost 4-5, 2nd team lost 2-7, 3rd team won 6-3
The U14A team had a superb match against King’s Bruton. The 1st pair, Munashe and Gaby performed consistently throughout and only dropped 3 games in total against the 1st pair. Ioana and Charlotte worked extremely well together and convincingly won against the 1st pair in the first round.
The most impressive performance of the afternoon came from Tess and Clemmie, who had some highs and lows through the afternoon, but through calm support of each other and taking each point at a time, they managed a fantastic finish against their equivalent pair, winning 6-1.
Well done to all the team, who are proving very difficult to beat this season.
In the U14Bs and Cs’ matches here were some very close-fought, long rallies and some fantastic tennis. Valentine and Issy, against the odds, beat the first pair 6-4 which was a great result. Andrea and Selina had two close games and lost their third set by one point! In the Bs, Molly and Jimmy only lost their two sets on the last point, 5-6, 5-6. Isobel and Emilia won their first set 6-4 and Lily and Alice took 2 out of their 3 sets 6-5, 6-4. Well-played to everyone, for delightful, relaxed but competitive tennis and great sportsmanship.
