Chaplaincy and Worship

Faith is at the heart of St Mary’s and the chapel is at the centre of the school both physically and spiritually; a tranquil place in our busy lives. We make religion relevant. Faith is active and the Chaplain encourages all to enter into the spiritual life of school. The girls are involved at all levels from formal sung Mass to retreats and simple night prayers.

Our central Mass for the whole school community takes place on Sunday. Other important days are also celebrated with a Mass for the whole school.

Girls are prepared for the sacrament of Confirmation and we often celebrate Baptisms and First Holy Communions.

Every new girl at St Mary’s, whether a boarder or day girl is given a ‘Guardian Angel”, a girl who is already at St Mary’s, who will be there to guide her and help her settle into life at school. Three weeks in to each school year, all new pupils and staff are welcomed by name into the community at our unique Rite of Welcome service.

There are vibrant Chaplaincy groups for all ages throughout the school with opportunities for those who wish to to serve in the Chapel and dedicate time to voluntary and charitable activities at school and in the local community.
