New Head, Maria Young, Joins St Mary’s
We are delighted to welcome our new headmistress, Maria Young, and her family to St Mary’s Shaftesbury.
Mrs Young joins us from Worth School where she was Deputy Head Pastoral and Head of Boarding. She has had a distinguished career in teaching most notably at Bryanston School and Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar in Kent. She has spent 30 years as a director of music, writing and directing musical opera and theatre, as well as directing school choirs and taking them on numerous tours overseas.
Mrs Young is a devout Catholic and a strong advocate of single-sex education, in which girls thrive both pastorally and academically as demonstrated by the school’s recent excellent GCSE and A level results.
She is a graduate of Universities of Durham and Cambridge.
Mrs Young is married to Paul and has two sons.
