Thought is given to academic enrichment throughout a students’ learning journey at St Mary’s Shaftesbury. Topics, speakers and workshops are chosen carefully so that they are relevant, innovative and interesting for each year group. We have specific programmes for pupils in the junior school, senior school and sixth form which offer an opportunity to extend the girls’ education beyond the curriculum.
Our Saturday Enrichment gives the girls the chance to explore current concepts in a guided learning environment. We encourage free debate and discussion in subjects such as astronomy, medical ethics and critical thinking with a feminist twist. The programme changes regularly and draws on the knowledge and skills of the St Mary’s staff as well as regular contributions from outside groups and speakers.
An extensive inspirational speaker programme brings an array of people into the school and expands the boundaries of thought and wisdom beyond the school gates.
We enjoy regular collaborations with other local schools and welcome our sister schools for workshops, debates and visiting speakers so that the girls are able to share their experiences with new people, adding to the benefit for everyone involved.
