In an increasingly crowded marketplace, the top A Level grades will continue to allow our pupils to challenge successfully for the most competitive courses at the most prestigious universities and to access the best further training and careers. Year after year, outstanding A Level results ensure that the overwhelming majority of our pupils gain entry to their first-choice university. This is testament to the hard work and skill of pupils and teachers alike.
In 2017, our Upper VI continued an excellent pass rate. 41% of A Level entries were awarded the top grades of an A* and A (nearly double the national average). Over a third of girls achieved AAB or higher, and we increased our proportion of girls achieving 2 or more A*s.
Not all pupils will achieve these high grades but all will achieve results which reflect their hard work and it is the desire to ensure that all pupils achieve their potential which is at the heart of our mission statement and ethos.
Each year, we are pleased to offer a large range of subjects:
- Classical Civilisation
- Drama and Theatre
- English Literature
- History of Art (Pre-U Qualification)
- Maths and Further Maths
- Religious Studies (Philosophy & Ethics)
- Physical Education
Students at St Mary’s will typically take three full A Levels. In addition to this, we will encourage you to consider taking an extra activity to complement your academic studies. This could be following the highly-respected Leith’s cooking course, an Extended Project Qualification, Young Enterprise, or a fourth academic subject.
